Workin’ Girls: Linlee Allen

Some girls just blow me away. Their constant efforts and desires to create beautiful and commanding works, to continuously make and conceptualize ideas for brands, people, companies and themselves is something definitely worth celebrating.

My favourite Australian pocket-rocket is Miss Linlee Allen. Hunter of all things unique, she has introduced me to some exceptional brands and people (always well ahead of her time) and has set the bar in terms of ways in which to work and operate in this industry.

On top of a very impressive list of people she has worked alongside, Linlee has spent several years in Paris working for the famed boutique colette as their international PR before relocating to Los Angeles. Here, she began working with The New York Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, The Daily Beast, W magazine, Purple Diary and i-D, among others…

Anyonegirl: Who is your ‘style muse,’ and why?

Linlee Allen: Lisa Eisner because she dares to go where nobody possibly could (and pulls it off every time), and Peggy Moffitt because maintaining a look for that long in one lifetime takes guts.

Anyonegirl: A few words on how you go about dressing yourself for work.

Linlee Allen: I feel as if I can conquer all when I am wearing one-off pieces by the amazing L.A-based brand Libertine, especially because I can identify with the design philosophy of the brand and I think the designer – Johnson Hartig – is a total genius. I think the kind of women that wear Libertine have to possess a certain esprit / savoire faire in order to pull their pieces off – Libertine is definitely not for wall flowers and I embrace that ideal 100%.

I mix coats, jackets and cashmere sweaters with basics from my favourite Japanese designers; Junya Watanabe, Sacai, Comme des Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto, then I will usually throw a stack of vibrant Lucy Folk bracelets into the mix, or earrings from another one of my favourite Melbourne brands, Poms Jewellery.

Anyonegirl: How does this change, if at all, come the weekends?

Linlee Allen: It really doesn’t change much according to the day – its more a sexier take for the evenings with a pair of Azzedine Alaia heels, Christopher Kane dresses, Junya Watanabe jackets and Libertine coats…

Anyonegirl: Seasonal trends you are liking, and avoiding?

Linlee Allen: I don’t believe in trends.

Anyonegirl: Top three beauty items right now?

Linlee Allen: 1. Suki hydrating mist and facial oils. 2. Origins exfoliating products and hydrating masks. 3. Dior Electric Blue Mascara.

Anyonegirl: What are you listening to on your iPod?

Linlee Allen: www.noiseinmyhead.com mixes from 2009 – 2012.

Anyonegirl: How do you de-stress from work?

Linlee Allen: Hiking with my dog (Lucky), Bike riding, Meditation, Massage and eight hour dance floor sessions at Bamboo music parties in Melbourne.

Anyonegirl: What is your ultimate Friday night wind-down after a long week of work?

Linlee Allen: Because of my freelance schedule and due to the fact I work with American media and clients I’m usually up at around 5.30am on Saturdays to catch their Friday afternoon so I always work on weekends and take days off during the week. The ultimate wind-down can happen on a Monday if it fits into my freelance schedule. I’m a fan of a 60-minute bike ride followed by a 90-minute deep tissue massage and another 60-minute ride back home. That usually hits the spot and recharges the batteries for me each week.
