WAIST — Mexico by Veronica Crockford-Pound
Videographer Veronica Crockford-Pound’s work exists as a series of observations and musings on the relationship between film and the human body. This super 8 film extends her continual study of the female form, the fragility of the medium constantly threatening to dissolve the image. Shot in Oaxaca (2017), it alludes to Bill Brandt’s series Nude, East Sussex (1959).
In her words from Waist 2, “while the body is bound up in flesh, film emanates from the sky, using the immaterial substance of light to trace its objects. A slight vibration in the air, its light emerges from the skies to gently brush against us…”
