I first meet designer Kate Jones in 2010 on Mott Street in New York. She was carrying her signature-recipe olive oil cakes, fresh out of the oven, wrapped in traditional kitchen cloths and ready to be hand-delivered to the local coffee shop La Colombe. Instant girl-crush.
Infectiously warm and always ready to tell you a story, Kate is someone I continue to crush on – for her style and generosity, yes, but also for her coveted jewellery line Ursa Major. With her recent collection, it is as if Kate has walked into a room filled with all of my favourite things; the silver sea at dusk, an abstract painting that I’ve dissected in my mind or those desert colours I’ve marvelled over in my parent’s old photo album, and she’s walked out again with Ursa Major’s ‘Collection No.4 LINES’. It explores ideas based around pure and architectural forms derived from ancient Japanese, Egyptian, and Roman cultures, which are then stripped back to their essence of shape and symbology. It’s fuss-free with a splash of the unexpected.
My most coveted piece is this collection’s charm necklace. The idea of owning a charm necklace has always freaked me out a little. Their charms are always made into far-too-obvious shapes and almost always end up too frilly for my neck’s liking. But this one is different, it’s quiet. It feels as if you have owned it for years before you’ve worn it out of the house for the first time. It could sleep with you, it could swim with you. It’s precious but not delicate…
I’ll leave you to fall in love with the rest of the collection via her campaign images below, of which you can purchase from [here]. And the BEST NEWS: Kate has kindly offered Anyonegirl readers a very special promotion (just what my credit card wants to hear). Use the discount code ANYONEGIRL and receive 20% off! (Thank you Kate!)
