“Are you happy with the filming?” “What do you mean, happy?”
“Well do you think it’s interesting?” “What do you mean, interesting?”
—Roger Waters, being interviewed by Adrian Maben in 1972,
This absolutely blew me away when i first saw this. Not only does it showcase the sheer brilliance of Pink Floyd as a band and as individual musicians, the concert film is simply beautiful to watch. Playing live outdoors to no audience in the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii is a must see.
The main footage in and around the amphitheatre was filmed over four days in October 1971, using the band’s regular touring equipment, including studio-quality 24-track recorders, and the additional footage was filmed in a Paris television studio. Stand out moments include “Mademoiselle Nobs” their dog howling the blues, when drummer, Nick Mason, looses one of his drum sticks mid drum-solo without you even realising, and when the sun goes down and the lights come on- this is unbelievable.
Enjoy! Tuesday’s Tune(s) dedicated to Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii
