Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen said they were looking at uniforms of sailors, of Japanese workers, and of school children, for their design ideas this season. Their other idea, was to use high-end fabrics in a casual way.
A tempting compilation of ideas and concepts. No wonder this collection is everything we love about The Row; un-fussy, a carefully curated palette, structural lines that bend and soften on the body. Maybe this is the idea behind the thin white line tracing the outline of the model and her outfit on all of their look book images. Fantastic touch.
I am really enjoying watching the way brands are starting to look for different ways to deliver their look books. We’re now given a slither of personality inside a somewhat stark setting of a look book. The front, sides, and back of the uniform-esque look book may have had it’s day? It’s crutial for online shopping purposes, I guess, but the look book online is in some cases the first real introduction to the collection (that is of course, if you weren’t invited to their show), so I hope we see them shape and move in even more directions than ever before. I say, stop ticking boxes. Do your vision a favour.
