Founded in 2008 by Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty, the SUNO first collection launched in Spring 2009 was made using vintage Kenyan textiles that Osterweis had been collecting for years and produced predominantly in Kenya, a long time second home to Osterweis. This sort of daring prints became a signature for the New York based womenswear label which today combines traditional, local techniques from Kenya, India, Peru and New York based high-end tailoring, emphasizing on fit and fabrics.
