“Sunflower” Houseboat on Waiheke Island

A month or so back I was gifted a Pentax SP500, a camera I have always wanted to play with, kit with 50mm and 35mm lenses. I absolutely love film, I have since I was very young, flicking through my parents shoe boxes of photographs they had taken on their travels. I thought I would share the first little project I did with my new dream-gift and some expired Ilford film; a day on board a houseboat named “Sunflower”.

“She plays the starlet that ran away from The Cannes Film Festival to the peaceful retreat of her houseboat on the island”, was the story behind the latest editorial shoot for Black Magazine’s issue #19. The houseboat; rightfully named “Sunflower” and owned by model Zippora Seven’s family, was one of the most idyllic settings I have ever experienced. We had the tide come in and out, Zippy rowing her row boat, photographer David K. Shields jumping in the water, beautiful, vintage gowns and a very, very nice day in Waiheke Island.

Here is a sneak peek behind the scenes of our day with “Sunflower” and a brilliant team; photographer David K. Shields, Fashion Editor Rachael Churchward, hair and makeup stylist Skye Cripps-Jackson of Stephen Marr and we finally caught some time with the radiant New Zealand model, now New York based, Zippora Seven at Clyne/Elite Models.
