Rick Owens is an amazing creature. It is of no surprise to me that he has ventured into furniture design, when we went to his studio/home last year in Paris the first thing that struck me was the ‘room’ that his furniture took over. Not that it was intrusive or over bearing but that the furniture had a persona of it’s own, filling up the some what baron rooms with their visual splendor of simplicity and modern silhouettes. His eye for structure within his garments is what makes his pieces so interesting- I love the way they have such precise line in construction but then at the same time no exactly how to loose themselves on you once on your body.
So here he is in New York City- opening his first furniture exhibition with Michele Lamy to show off their phenomenal new bedroom set: an alabaster bed, an alabaster daybed, two bronze side tables, a fur fringe room divider and two stone lamps. But I’m sure we’ll see more of that later.. for now I wanted to show you some of his personal photographs form his time in the big apple. New York could be a place where you could fall into capturing the same old images that you see all over the internet these days, the same streets, same spots and the same people, but not when left in the hands of Rick Owens.
These photographs of the city and the set up of his show are beautiful, grainy and have his signature style written all over them.
Enjoy.
