Monday’s Muse: Debbie Harry
With her photogenic features and two-tone bleached-blonde hair, Debbie Harry, lead singer of punk rock and new-wave band Blondie, quickly became a punk sensation during the mid-70s.
As a regular at Studio 54 Harry partied with all the right people and danced all the right moves. Paired with a somewhat infectious persona, combining a cool sexuality with her streetwise style – both championed by Warhol, she is still highly celebrated and referenced today.
But a woman with such an impressive presence, must have had an interesting past right? Right. Pre Blondie days, Harry gained an Arts degree, worked as a secretary at BBC Radio’s office, waitressed at Max’s Kansas City, was a go-go dancer at a discothèque, and was an official Playboy Bunny. I know.
