“I try not to think too much about what the audience is thinking and what they think I should do. Anyone will become mannered if they think too much about what other people think.” — Kim Gordon.

Imagine getting to spend your working hours on stage with your husband, rocking massive audiences until the sweat shakes off their youthful brows. It has me thinking about the deep bond and connection those two musicians must have – forming both a creative relationship and an intimate one. Who can blame Moore, really, Kim Gordon in incomparable.

Starting out as a visual artist, studying at Otis Art Institute, Gordon soon became the bassists, guitarist and vocalist of Sonic Youth alongside husband Thurston Moore. The band had an incredible influence on the post-punk and grunge scene throughout the 90s, collaborating with Hole, Dinosaur Jr. and Nirvana. However, the focus never strayed too far from Sonic Youth’s font girl. With a combination of sass and talent, Gordon not only captivated the music scene but also held art exhibitions in New York, London, Gothenburg and Tokyo.

I love her confidence on stage, her charming boyish style, and the fact that her creative vision stretches way beyond one singular medium. It seems everything that Gordon has applied herself to has not only worked out for her and her own satisfaction, it has and will continue to inspire generations behind her.
