Our very own New Zealand designer, Karen Walker, continues to make her mark in the New York Fashion Week line up this season by sending out a contrast of girls who were on one side very pulled together with a waisted trench, cigarette pants, and red lipstick to match their pumps, and on the other side a girl who has chucked on her baggy essentials, sunnies, hat and jacket and looks effortlessly cool. She’s ‘cracked’, was the title of Karen Walker’s Fall 2009 Collection that she herself has described as ”the beauty that comes out of catastrophe, and the brittle nature of things.” She does her beautiful, classic tailoring with pants and jackets, and puts them beside cracking leather jackets and breakaway flaps on jersey tops. Her signature kooky prints are out in full bloom and her lampshade-esque floppy hats are sure to win your heart over. Our picks of the bunch after the jump.
