Hussein Chalayan Spring/Summer 09
Know for his conceptual bold lines and use of shape Hussein Chalayan threw us another visual wonder. Famous for always putting on a ‘show’ rather than a fashion show, Chalayan delivered just that with laser lights and a rotational runway and a window of glasses which was played by four hands throughout the show giving off a haunting sound.
This season saw a bright print similar to that of a wet road with reflecting lights zig zaging up it, contrasted with form-fitting rubber dresses, bold stripes all worn with a flash of neon yellow shades or high veiled headpieces (courtesy of hat man Noel Stewart). With a blur of grey and dash of red, five models appeared in solid dresses whose backs were made into irregular horns while the lights above them rotated eerily and the wind machines grew louder to resemble traffic noise when all of a sudden an almighty crash! All the glasses smashed at once and the catwalk went dark. Hussein Chalayan at his finest.
