Wether it’s the nudge in the face first thing in the morning, the chats in the kitchen, or the cuddles you receive when you’re feeling low, cats have a knack in knowing what’s good for you. They’re intuitive, some might say. Perhaps, then, it is why us females simply love a feline friend, or two.
Girls and their Cats is a photo series by photographer BriAnne Wills. It captures girls in their homes, surrounding by their things with their cats in and amongst everything, sniffing out the situation. As per usual. They’re simple, instantly relatable and full of personality.
“The first shoot was originally a nude shoot, but afterwards I took a few shots of the girl and her cat which turned out to be my favorite. I used that photo as sort of a casting on Instagram asking girls to be part of the project. Anyone who saw the photo tagged their friends with cats or emailed me directly. And from there it’s mostly been those girls recommending their friends.
Cats are tough models. I swear they know when the camera comes out and decide to stay just out of reach. I shoot with film so I really have to make sure the shot is perfect before I take the photo. I encourage the girls to buy treats beforehand as incentive for the cats to stay in one spot. Since cats are almost constantly looking around, there are quite a few blurry cat faces. It’s really amusing when there are two cats involved, because once you have one cat in the perfect spot, the other one runs away. And vice versa. Treats almost never work in that case either. Like I said, it is as if they know when you want them to participate, and in true cat form, they protest by running or hiding or refusing to sit still.” — BriAnne Wills
