George Bezhanishvill and Franziska Furpass Femme Maison Collection
Having studied at The University of Applied Arts together, designers George Bezhanishvill and Franziska Furpass have collaborated on a capsule collection that they have called Femme Maison. Their inspiration for Femme Maison lies in the work of Louise Bourgeois’s works which are known for portraying relationships either as a whole entity or as something in relation to its surroundings, often consisting of erotic and sexual images and organic forms found in nature, it also deals with topics such as fear, protection and intimacy.
I think it is the natural part of these garments that ‘talk’ so much, it has a feminine quality that is not lost in mass of fabrics or heavy ruffling at one side, they have a beautiful flow and softness to them that is very appealing. I love the soft colors used too, I think I really suits the fabric and silhouettes. The fringing on the shoulders not only reminds me of something much more modern but also takes me back to my next door neighbor’s fringed standing lamp they had in their lounge which would tickle my head when I sat down. It was actually in that same pink color that the above image garment is in too!
The fabric they use for these beautiful creational garments are tapestry that is handled into bunches and pleats, padding up the body in places and distorting the human figure. Their collection, Femme Maison, will be shown in Bilbao at the Art & Fashion Bilbao International Competition this year.
