Erwin Olaf’s painterly photographs, which resonate Edward Hopper’s canvases and Sixties and Seventies cinema; Chinatown, Bonnie and Clyde, mixed with a dash of Mad Men. Hamiltons Gallery is showing works from his latest series, Hotel – from April 28th through to June 4th 2010.
‘The older I get the more I start to realize that I am more influenced by cinema than I am photography. Although there are big beautiful photographs, when you are going to the cinema you can always make up your own story. You have more emotion, I never cry over a photo, but I cry over a movie, or music or literature. That makes me a bit jealous so I want to achieve that in my photography’. Olaf
