It is always the unexpected from Comme des Garcons’ Rei Kawakubo, and that she delivered yesterday afternoon at Paris Fashion Week. With feathery black petal arrangements and hexagon constructed cocoons, she gave way to the ruffles and clown-ess themes of previous collection and made way for the darker edged tones with only a mere hint of grey occasionally bursting through.
Armour edged with structured folds, voluminous geometric constructions in the form of skirts and dresses, and head gear that resembled 18th Century wigs pathed the way for Comme Des Garcons womenswear for 2009. A company that continually leads the push for the boundaries so everybody else can get a little bit riskier.
