Clavicle by Rachael Yaeger

“Clavicles are intimate, delicate and personal.” Clavicle is a series of images taken on disposable cameras throughout Berlin, Montreal and Manhattan by our friend Rachael Yaeger, founder of Human NYC.

I love film, I have my mom’s old Nikon, but there’s something fun about disposable cameras. If you break the camera it’s okay, if you forget it somewhere — it was only $11, but if you get a good shot, that baby is 35mm film and one happy surprise. I had been carrying around disposables over the last two years in my bag. I kept a photo series in mind titled Clavicle and finally put a small show together.

2015 was a hugely emotional year for me and there’s something so sensitive about the clavicle. It’s a structural bone so it is strong, but it is also a delicate one, and beautiful too. There is this balance of vulnerability I struggle with sometimes — how much to show; when to protect myself. I lost my dad last year and just traveled for two months. It was a big deal to let go of my New York-life. The umbrella series were shot in Berlin as they remind me of clavicles.  — Rachael Yaeger
