Like the Spanish term mirador, each piece featured in the new collection from Austinmer-based brand Mirador is a viewpoint from which to admire something grander than yourself – a fond memory of warmer months; a glimpse into the sublime.
Textile designer Lauren Elise Cassar has created a collection of sarongs that act as ‘wearable canvases’ each promoting her own style. The first S/S ’15-16 collection An Inkling is a series of eight cotton sarongs, featuring colourful large-scale prints, each hand-crafted in Australia using a high thread-count cotton voile which is delicate and soft.
For this image series, Lauren and three of her friends; Hilary Faye (the photographer), Ella Bendrups (the stylist) and Seth Searle (the illustrator/model), all spent the day together at Seth’s home. It was here that they captured the softness and homeliness of the Mirador sarongs…. “How, in summer time, a sarong can feel so freeing to wear, with a pair of comfy socks and a cup of tea or champagne in your hand.”
