As a dancer I am instantly drawn to these images. The energy and strength inside the bodies and hearts of a dancer will exceed any. It comes from a personal place and is measured in line, height, length, endurance, extension and warmth. The internal references are played with by external influences creating a give and take between performer, person and dancer- all with and against their audience, their friends, family and director. The vulnerableness and the power, the space and the story are all accents surrounding one’s performance. To take your audience with you on this journey is empowering and taxing at the same time. It’s a generosity that over rides any.
These images, I feel, encompass this emotion- the internal battle over story and self presentation, performance and softness.
I love the use of powder too- it gives the images a sense of movement and air.. enjoy xx
