Desiree Dolron: Te dí todos mis sueños

Acclaimed contemporary Dutch photographer Desiree Dolron is once again exhibiting on New Zealand shores with her show Te dí todos mis sueños (I give you all of my dreams) at designworks in Wellington.The works explore the streets of Havana in a darkly romantic series of photographs cataloguing her experiences in the area. The exhibit includes some familiar characters, including Castro and Guevera, who play obscured hosts in scenes of domestic normality across streets, classrooms, kitchens and sitting rooms.Dolron uses a reproductive technique where dye-bond prints are sandwiched between layers of Perspex. The resulting works blur the lines between traditional photographic practice and computer enhancement as rich colours are exaggerated.With such strikingly perfect images, it’s no stretch to see why Dolron’s photography is collected by the Guggenheim in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum. If you’re in Wellington, this is an exhibit that’s not to be missed.
